What is the biggest problem that guitar players face?
For most it is the inability to make real music with the knowledge they have build up over the years. Even some experienced guitar players build up an array of techniques and music theory knowledge but do not know how to apply and integrate these into their own playing. Consequently, when put in a situation where they must be creative with what they know these players find that they are out of their depth.
With the correct training, anyone can be creative on the guitar and have great improvisational skills. This programme focuses on the key issues that hold guitar players back from achieving total freedom when they are writing and creating solos and lead guitar lines of their own.

"Jonathan’s improvisation lessons are definitely recommended to develop your guitar skills!"
I started to learn guitar as a complete novice and through Jonathan’s tutelage have developed my own style and grown in confidence as a player with, amongst other guitar skills, the ability to competently improvise playing solo and experimenting with my guitar playing.
Mixing the use of inspiring songs to improvise with, coupled with the right amount of music theory to help achieve constant development and understanding of my playing, Jonathan puts his lessons in to context and will give you something you will always use as a guitar player. Jonathan’s teaching and regular practice have improved my skills massively, leaving me wanting to constantly learn and develop more! |

"Jonathan helped me expand my playing to incorporate all aspects of the music that was being played around me from using the beat to improvising using specific chord shapes."
When I started my education with Jonathan my improvisation was effectively limited to the major scale and the 7 notes therein. The lessons were adapted very well to my very visual method of learning and this certainly helped me to progress far quicker than if I had tried to do so on my own. The emphasis was placed not so much on doing as many different things as possible but on promoting a "bag of tricks" so that one could use various "tricks" as and when they were appropriate. The focus on expanding my options beyond speed and promoting far more useful technique such as control and accuracy certainly helped me broaden my horizons in my playing ability. Matt Joyce |
This program is designed to suit intermediate to advanced players in most blues and rock based styles. Classes will be held every week for 1 hour and in that time you will learn the essential skills to move you improvisation forward whilst making music with like-minded musicians in the same situation as you. In addition I will provide you with the backing tracks you need to practice what you learn at home. Unlike many of improvisational courses this program does NOT require you to have a knowledge of music theory before you start and if you do it will help you to better integrate and apply what you already know to make better music, thereby turning these somewhat abstract concepts into tools to help you.

"With a lot of practice and some great lessons I have progressed from being a novice to a not bad shredder and it has also helped my general playing skills."
When I started looking at improvisation it seemed to be really hard and something that I would never be able to achieve. I love metal and rock so I have to be able to improvise. Jonathan guided me through this minefield with good lessons not just jamming but understanding the theory behind it, why we improvise and when we solo and what we can achieve by improvising. I would recommend Jonathan to anyone who wants to improve there shredability and all round improvisational skills.
